Overview

The project consists of approximately 9.5 miles of non-tolled improvements along I-35 from I-410 North to FM 3009 in San Antonio. The I-35 elevated lanes will provide direct connections to I-410 North and Loop 1604 West and East. The project also includes incidental construction necessary to transition the elevated lanes and connectors with the existing highways including revisions to ramps and frontage roads and accommodations for drainage, utilities, signs, and other highway improvements.

Project Description

  • Approximately 9.5 miles
  • Construction of approximately 15 miles of elevated lanes - in both northbound and southbound directions - between existing mainlanes and frontage roads to provide added capacity
  • Additional bridges will be constructed to connect the new upper decks of I-35 to I-410 North and Loop 1604 West
  • Construction to transition new upper decks and direct connectors with existing highways, including revisions to ramps and frontage roads

Funding

  • Design-build cost: $1.5 billion

Schedule

  • Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-2022 and is expected to be completed in 2027.
