I-35 from SE Inner Loop to RM 1431 (Southbound)

Overview:

The project includes improving the I-35 at Southeast Inner Loop and Westinghouse Road intersections, reversing entrance and exit ramps along the southbound I-35 frontage road between Southeast Inner Loop and RM 1431, adding extended entrance and exit lanes, and additional operational improvements.

Need & Purpose
  • Improve safety and mobility, including:
    • Increasing visibility at the I-35 frontage road and Southeast Inner Loop and Westinghouse Road intersections
    • Enhancing traffic flow by reducing lane merging/weaving along the southbound mainlanes and frontage road
Project Description
  • Reconstruct the intersections at I-35 and Southeast Inner Loop and Westinghouse Road
  • Improve the existing I-35 southbound frontage road from north of Southeast Inner Loop to RM 1431
  • Reverse entrance/exit ramps along the I-35 southbound frontage road between Southeast Inner Loop and RM 1431
  • Improve bicycle and pedestrian accommodations

  • Finalized schematic and environmental documentation: winter 2020
  • Begin plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E): winter 2020
  • Complete PS&E: summer 2022
  • Construction letting: summer 2022
  • Construction start: fall 2022
  • Construction completion: winter 2024
