NEW WACO DISTRICT ENGINEER STAN SWIATEK SHOOTS STRAIGHT, OUTLINES PRIORITIES

By any measure, newly appointed TxDOT Waco District Engineer Stanley Swiatek's plate is full, and there's a lot he wants to accomplish. The massive I-35 renovation is well under way with two major projects being let (placed under contract) next year. The new Interstate 14 (U.S. 190) mobility improvements are progressing, rural roadways in the district need attention, and current and future congestion remains a huge issue. TXDOT RECOGNIZED FOR HELPING PRESERVE TEXAS' MONARCH BUTTERFLIES

TxDOT was recognized recently for efforts to support monarch butterflies in their semi-annual migration travels. SECTION 1B: SALADO (FM 2843 TO FM 2484)

DOWN THE ROAD

  • General cleanup throughout the project.
  • Install a dynamic message sign and large signs.
  • Electrical subcontractor replacing/installing light poles at various ramps and completing lighting for overpass structures.

SECTION 1C: SALADO TO BELTON (FM 2484 TO US 190/FM 436)

DOWN THE ROAD

  • Continue replacing/installing light poles at various ramps and illumination at overpasses.
  • Complete striping operations.
  • Install a dynamic message sign and large signs.
  • Continue general cleanup along project.

SECTION 2B: TEMPLE (S. LOOP 363 TO N. LOOP 363)

MILESTONES

  • Completed installing retaining wall on the east side of Adams/Central Interchange.
  • Completed constructing the BNSF Railroad underpass.
  • Completed constructing the second phase of the southbound mainlanes overpass at the BNSF Lampas-Sub Railroad.
  • Completed demolishing the existing Main Lane Bridge at BNSF Belco Overpass.
  • Completed constructing the second spans on the Adams & Central Underpass Structures.

DOWN THE ROAD

  • Continue installing the concrete rail along the southbound frontage road at the 57th St. underpass and turnarounds.
  • Continue constructing the retaining wall on the east side of the I-35 Nugent Ave. underpass.
  • Continue constructing the northbound frontage road from Ira Young St. through Avenue H.
  • Begin demolition of the existing BNSF Underpass and construction of the new BNSF Mainlane Underpass.
  • Begin construction of the final phase of the Overpass at the BNSF Lampasas Sub railroad.
  • Begin construction of the NBML and NBFR Overpasses at the BNSF Belco Yard railroad.
  • Constructing the intersections at Adams and Central interchanges with the northbound and southbound frontage roads.

SECTION 3A-1: TEMPLE TO TROY (N. LOOP 363 TO N. TROY CITY LIMIT)

  • Completed work on the bridge embankment for northbound mainlane bridges at FM 1237 and FM 935.
  • Constructed drainage structures across the old northbound mainlane.
  • Completed setting bridge beams for the new northbound mainlane FM 935 bridge.

DOWN THE ROAD

  • Continue working on the northbound frontage road between Berger/Hart Rd. and FM 1237.
  • Continue working on the northbound frontage road just north of N. Loop 363.
  • Install signs for the new southbound mainlanes.
  • Continue pouring concrete pavement on the new northbound mainlane between Berger Rd. and FM 1237/Pendleton Rd.
  • Continue working on the new northbound Exit 308 to FM 935 and the new northbound entrance ramp just north of FM 935.
  • Continue working on the North Troy intersection.
  • Switch the northbound mainlane traffic onto new pavement from Berger to FM 1237.
  • Work on the new northbound frontage road between FM 935 and North Troy.
  • Pour new bridge deck for the northbound mainlane bridge at FM 935.

SECTION 3A-2: TROY TO BRUCEVILLE-EDDY (N. TROY CITY LIMIT TO WOODLAWN RD.)

  • Completed working on the bridge deck for new UPRR bridges.
  • Opened new northbound mainlanes overpass at Old Blevins to traffic.
  • Opened new entrance between Big Elm Rd. and Old Blevins.

DOWN THE ROAD

  • Continue construction on the new southbound frontage road at FM 107.
  • Continue tying in new side streets along the southbound frontage road between UPRR and FM 107.
  • Continue working on the new retaining walls at the UPRR crossing.
  • Continue working on bridge rails for new UPRR bridges.
  • Continue work on the east half of the new southbound frontage road between FM 107 and N. Eddy Dr.
  • Complete the new northbound mainlanes overpass at Big Elm Rd.
  • Continue construction of the northbound mainlanes bridge at Big Elm Creek.
  • Continue paving the northbound frontage road between Old Blevins Rd. and FM 107.
  • Continue working on and paving the new entrance and exit ramps between Big Elm Rd. and Old Blevins.
  • Continue working on the retaining walls at the new FM 107 underpass.
  • Start working on the new northbound mainlane pavement from Big Elm Creek to Big Elm Rd.

SECTION 3B: LORENA TO HEWITT (WOODLAWN RD. TO SUN VALLEY BLVD./FM 2063)

SECTION 4A: WACO ACCESS ROADS (MLK TO TAYLOR)

LANE CLOSURES

  • North-to-south access roads and the turnaround from MLK Blvd. under I-35 at the UPRR crossing have been permanently closed. New access roads and railroad crossing bridges will be constructed to replace them.
  • The southbound frontage road turnaround between Forrest St. and UPRR has been closed permanently at Cherry St.
  • Forrest St. Bridge is closed.

MILESTONES

  • Completed roadbeds for both northbound and southbound access roads between Forrest St and MLK.
  • Began pouring concrete paving on both northbound and southbound access roads between Forrest St. and MLK.

DOWN THE ROAD

  • Complete building the roadway pavement along the northbound and southbound frontage roads.
  • Begin striping new northbound and southbound frontage roads.
  • Open new northbound and southbound frontage roads.
  • Complete installing the manholes, inlets, and lateral lines on both sides of the highway.
  • Continue working on the Peach St. connection to the southbound frontage road.
  • Continue working on the Cherry St. connection to the southbound frontage road.
  • Continue construction of the northbound and southbound frontage-road bridge rails.
  • Complete building the roadway embankment along the north and south frontage roads.
  • Continue construction on Spring St.
  • Begin demolition of old Forrest St. bridge.
