Project ID (CSJ)

  • 0196-03-274

Overview

The I-35E Phase 2: Dallas County from I-635 to Denton County Line project will consist of the full reconstruction and widening of I-35E within the project limits. This is a Texas Clear Lanes project. Texas Clear Lanes is a statewide strategic plan to provide congestion relief through non-tolled roads and is focused on the five largest metro areas in Texas.

Need

Increased traffic along the I-35E corridor coupled with regional population growth in Texas has created travel demand that exceeds its current capacity. The existing I-35E facility is an essential element of the local and regional transportation system.

Purpose

The purpose of the 6.39-mile project is to meet local and regional travel demands by increasing capacity; upgrading the transportation infrastructure to meet current FHWA and TxDOT design standards for interstates, bridges, and frontage roads; thereby improving the safety of travelers along I-35E.

Project Description

  • The general-purpose lanes will be widened from six to eight lanes
  • Continuous frontage roads will be constructed
  • Improvements at numerous intersections within the project limits
  • Reconstruct the two existing "grandfathered" toll managed lanes

Funding

  • Texas Clear Lanes funding contribution: $230 million
  • Estimated total construction cost: $709 million
  • Construction cost: $601 million
  • Design cost: $78.3 million
  • Utility relocation cost: $30 million

Schedule
